NEW YORK, June 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CUSIP Global Services (CGS) today announced the addition of Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) data into the CUSIP master and delta database files and the CUSIP Access web portal.  The new dataset is designed to facilitate seamless mapping between the standard pre-LEI, currently known in the US market as the CICI (Commodity Futures Trading Commission Interim Compliant Identifiers), to CUSIP and CGS ISIN based issuer and security information. It will help speed the adoption of a standard LEI for use in security master files.

The inclusion of the LEI file in the CUSIP database file and web application builds on CUSIP Global Services' recent collaboration with The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) on the assignment of Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Interim Compliant Identifiers (CICIs).  Under that agreement, CUSIP Global Services developed an integrated interface with the CICI Utility, offering issuers a streamlined solution to simultaneously apply for both CUSIP numbers and CICIs by using a single interface. This assistance with registration greatly aids issuers by making the adoption and maintenance of legal entity identifiers (LEIs) a seamless part of the new security issuance workflow.

Now, by including the LEI data in CUSIP database file and web application, CUSIP Global Services is making this vital reference data available to the marketplace for use in their risk management and security mapping processes.  This additional content is free of charge to properly licensed subscribers to CGS's database services.

"Full-scale industry adoption of a standard, unique identifier for entities involved in financial transactions will mark a quantum leap forward for counterparty risk management," said Joel Nadelman, Product Director, CUSIP Global Services.  "As such, we are committed to helping to speed that adoption process along as quickly and efficiently as possible.  We believe that by including legal entity level data in both the CUSIP database file and CUSIP Access, we will give the industry a practical means of working the LEI mapping process into their current workflows."
